The Cornerstones of Fluxbuntu
One of the tenets of Fluxbuntu is to remain consistent with the cornerstones of lightweight, productive, agile, and efficient. The design choices in Fluxbuntu are the culmination of consideration to these four choices, plus the ability to remain as friendly as possible to the end user.
Lightweight
While there is no standard tool used to analyze such a term, Fluxbuntu has chosen applications that have low memory footprints in conjunction with their graphical presence. In addition to the standard memory and processor tax, applications have been evaluated on their resultant need for external libraries.
Productive
We want you to remain as productive on Fluxbuntu as you might on a more heavily equipped system. Of course, some tradeoffs will occur, but we believe that one will be as productive on Fluxbuntu as they would be on a more laden system.
Agile
The Fluxbuntu project seeks to be responsive to users and change. This requires that the structure be loose enough to adapt and alter within short periods of time. Fluxbuntu places great value on innovation, contemporary needs and trends, and the versatility of technology.
Efficient
Efficiency is something most users can understand and is a tenet tightly coupled with lightweight. Fluxbuntu seeks to maximize the performance of whatever processor and memory your computer is using. This means that the software will always be judged in accordance with its ability to deliver productivity over its need for system resources.
Why Fluxbuntu?
In the end, Fluxbuntu was developed because of the apparent need for an extremely lean operating system based off of Ubuntu. While some would cite alternate projects with similar goals, we believe that their ability to remain true to the LPAE goals have run astray. In the end, for those users seeking the ideals enshrined in the Fluxbuntu project, we believe no other distribution combines the goals as successfully as Fluxbuntu does.
What does all of this mean to an average end user? Fluxbuntu will deliver a system with performance and versatility to anyone who uses it. We hope you agree.
