Help! Where Do I Get Help?

As you well know, much of the day to day help you get for your computing needs is often supplied by coworkers, friends, and other associates. In Fluxbuntu and much of Free Software, the community of users forms your 'extended' friend base. This document will hopefully outline the standard avenues for help available to a new Fluxbuntu user. It might even help introduce you to some of those new friends.

Web Based Search Engines

Often Googling for a particular piece of information with the terms "fluxbox", "fluxbuntu", or "ubuntu" in the phrase will get you started down the path of success for whatever current hiccup you are experiencing.

The Fluxbuntu Community Forums

The Fluxbuntu Forums are a good place to meet people who specifically are working in, around, and with Fluxbuntu. You can search the archives using keywords or browse particular threads of interest. There are even areas dedicated for pure "off-topic" chatter.

The Fluxbuntu IRC Channel

Interent Relay Chat (IRC) is a great way to communicate in real-time with other users. The Fluxbuntu official channel is located on irc.freenode.net in channel #fluxbuntu. You can use Pidgin, the Fluxbuntu default instant messaging client, to connect to IRC by selecting the "Add Chat" menu item under "Buddies".

Other Ubuntu Resources

Fluxbuntu is based upon Ubuntu, and as such, most of the documentation and information that applies to Ubuntu also applies to Fluxbuntu. Ubuntu's Forums are a wonderful resource for archived information as well as the official Ubuntu wiki.

Summary

In the end, you have a vast array of resources at your disposal to help you along the learning curve of a *nixlike operating system such as Fluxbuntu. As time progresses and with your help, the documentation and tools will grow such that looking for help will become a thing of the past. Until it does, it is good to know the choices you have available to you.
